At the age of ten, inspired by her grandmother in Kolkata, India, Harshita Lohia became very interested in arts and crafts. Belonging to the sixth generation of the Chamong tea family, business skills came naturally to Harshita. Her early interest was making and selling cards and envelopes for weddings. When she was thirteen, her father gave her a set of paints and paintbrushes and told her "to use them with no limits". From that moment Harshita developed a serious interest in fine arts. At fifteen, she held her first solo exhibition of her paintings in Chitrakoot Art Gallery, Kolkata, India followed by a solo exhibition in Singapore at age seventeen.
In 1997, Harshita traveled to Chicago for a summer program at the Art Institute of Chicago. The following year she enrolled at Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia. After finishing her bachelor of fine arts degree in textile design at Moore, Harshita completed her masterís degree in digital printing at Philadelphia University. In 2005, she created Harshita Designs to carry out her mission of creating wearable art and original accessories. Her brilliant collections represent her rich heritage and her sensitive way of blending east and west.
