 Through the design and craft of silk, the people behind the Satya Paul line strive to express refinement, finesse and elegance for contemporary life. Catering to a diverse market while maintaining the Satya Paul “look”, a cutting edge, dedicated team of designers from various fields of art conceptualizes each piece. When Satya Paul designed for his namesake label he said, “My inspirations come from life, from the whole of this beautiful world…from thorough historical research, from elements of movement and dynamism, from the trees, birds, rain, music, paintings, sculpture…existence itself.”
Satya Paul was born in Leigha, Muzaffargar, Pakistan and moved to India during the country’s partition. He founded the stores Heritage and L’affaire and through them, gained experience in retail. After opening his stores, working with village weavers, and traveling to the west, Nanda decided to market his work as a designer brand. In 1985, Paul launched the label that now bears his name through Heritage and L’affaire. Initially the Satya Paul line consisted of saries and fabrics but eventually expanded to include scarves and ties which are in its collections today.
Today Paul’s son Puneet is the head designer for the Satya Paul brand. He works with weavers, printers and craftsmen to combine traditional methods and modern technology. With his clothes Satya Paul hopes to make an impact on the world and return the inspiration he received from it with renewed energy. “I seek,” says Nanda, “to encourage higher standards of art in particular…to bring in fresh attitudes, new life, awareness, positivity, humor and elegance for life’s every mood.”
